The Story This Season

Space Gods summons tacticians to the final frontier, where almighty celestial beings bestow their infinite cosmic power upon worthy champions. The signature mechanic — Realm of the Gods — replaces the traditional carousel: two random gods appear each game and players choose between their blessings, unlocking special boons at stages 4-7. Featured gods include Soraka (Stars), Aurelion Sol (Wonders), Evelynn (Temptation), Kayle (Order), and Yasuo (Abyss).

About this season

Our countdown syncs with official Riot Games patch schedule announcements. TFT Set 17 ends exactly when Patch 18.1 goes live on July 29, 2026 — this timer shows exactly how much time remains to reach your rank goal or claim pass rewards.

How TFT Sets and Ranked Seasons Work

Teamfight Tactics organizes its content into Sets rather than traditional seasons. Each Set introduces an entirely new champion roster, trait system, augment pool, and core mechanic that redefines the game's strategy from scratch. Ranked seasons are aligned 1:1 with Sets — Ranked Season 16 runs exactly during Set 17: Space Gods.

Sets typically run between 125 and 133 days — approximately four months. This longer cadence compared to other competitive games gives players meaningful time to master new compositions and climb the ranked ladder before the meta resets.

Recent Set History and Duration

TFT has maintained consistent set lengths since Set 15, allowing players to plan their ranked goals with confidence:

  • Set 15: K.O. Coliseum — July 30 to December 2, 2025 (125 days)
  • Set 16: Lore & Legends — December 3, 2025 to April 15, 2026 (133 days)
  • Set 17: Space Gods — April 15 to July 29, 2026 (105 days) — current

What Resets Between Sets

At every Set transition, TFT performs a full ranked reset. Your LP is wiped and you complete placement games to establish a new starting rank for the incoming set. This means your Grandmaster or Challenger standing from Set 16 does not carry forward — Set 17 is a fresh ladder for every player.

The Tactician's Voyage cosmetic pass also closes at set end. Any unclaimed rewards — Little Legends, arenas, booms, and tactician skins — are permanently lost if not claimed before July 29.

When Does TFT Set 17 End?

TFT Set 17: Space Gods officially ends on July 29, 2026, when Patch 18.1 goes live and Set 18 launches simultaneously. Riot Games confirmed this date as part of the 2026 TFT roadmap, making it a hard deadline for both ranked goals and pass completion.

Players across all platforms — PC, Mac, iOS, and Android — share the same end date. There is no platform-specific extension or grace period.

Ranked Season 16 Reset and Placement Impact

Ranked Season 16 ends exactly when Set 17 does on July 29. Your final rank before the reset determines your seeding advantage heading into Set 18 placement games — players who reach Diamond or higher tend to receive better calibration, preserving more of their competitive standing into the new set.

The final stretch of a TFT ranked season typically sees a surge in Grandmaster and Challenger competition as players make late pushes. Queue times compress and lobby quality peaks in the last two to three weeks, making it an ideal window to climb if you're close to a target rank.

Tactician's Voyage Pass Expiration

The Tactician's Voyage pass for Set 17 costs 1,295 RP (~$10) and closes permanently on July 29. Unlike Battle Passes in some other games, TFT's pass does not offer a post-season grace period — unclaimed rewards at the deadline are gone.

Players who purchased the pass should audit their remaining tier progress in the final two weeks. Weekly Missions are the fastest XP source and reset every Monday — completing them consistently in June and July is the most reliable way to finish the pass without a last-minute grind.

Set 18 Launch and What to Expect

Set 18 launches the moment Set 17 ends on July 29, 2026. Riot has confirmed a forest and nature theme for Set 18, with the return of the traditional carousel mechanic that was suspended during Set 17's Realm of the Gods experiment.

A full new champion roster, trait system, and augment pool will ship with Set 18, making early adaptation a competitive advantage. Players who study the pre-release patch notes and understand trait synergies before the set goes live tend to climb faster in the volatile first two weeks.

Set 17: Space Gods — What Makes It Unique

Space Gods introduces the most significant mechanical change in TFT history: the Realm of the Gods system replaces the carousel entirely. Instead of a shared draft carousel at the start of each round, two randomly selected gods appear and players choose between their blessings — unlocking powerful boons that apply at stages 4 through 7.

The gods themselves are iconic League of Legends champions reframed as cosmic deities: Soraka (God of Stars), Aurelion Sol (God of Wonders), Evelynn (God of Temptation), Kayle (God of Order), and Yasuo (God of the Abyss), among others.

Realm of the Gods Mechanic

At the start of each game, two gods are randomly selected from the pool. Players choose which god to align with, and their chosen god's blessing activates progressively at stages 4-1, 5-1, 6-1, and 7-1 — each stage unlocking a stronger boon than the last.

Because different players in the same lobby can align with different gods, scouting your opponents' god choices becomes a critical skill. Contested god compositions — where multiple players chase the same trait synergies — are punished more severely than in carousel-based metas, since players cannot pivot by claiming specific units from a shared draft.

Strategic Implications for Ranked Play

The elimination of the carousel fundamentally changes tempo and economy decisions. In carousel-based TFT, early-round outcomes influence which items and units you can contest. In Space Gods, your god choice at the start locks you into a general direction before you see your shop — flexibility and augment scouting replace carousel positioning as the primary early-game skill expression.

High-level play in Set 17 rewards players who understand which god blessings synergize with the strongest 8 and 9-cost vertical traits, and who can identify when to greedily commit versus when to pivot based on augment offerings at 2-1, 3-2, and 4-2.

Cross-Platform Play and Mobile Performance

TFT is one of the few auto-battlers with full cross-platform progression. Your ranked standing, pass progress, and Little Legend collection are identical whether you play on PC, Mac, iPhone, or Android. Set 17 updates shipped simultaneously across all platforms.

Mobile players share the same ranked ladder as PC players, with no separate mobile-only division. If you're pushing a ranked target before July 29, switching between devices mid-session is seamless — your LP and composition carry over instantly via your Riot account.

Frequently asked questions

When does TFT Set 17 end?

TFT Set 17: Space Gods ends on July 29, 2026 at 10:00 UTC. Set 18 launches the same day, with a fresh ranked ladder and new trait system.

When does TFT Set 18 start?

TFT Set 18 is confirmed to start on July 29, 2026, immediately after Set 17: Space Gods ends.

Do TFT Set 17 ranked rewards carry over to Set 18?

No. TFT ranked rewards and Little Legends earned through Set 17 must be claimed before the set ends. Set 18 starts a fresh ranked ladder from Placement matches.

What is Hyper Roll and does it have a separate ranked season from TFT Set 17?

Hyper Roll is a faster TFT game mode where players share 3 HP and matches run in roughly 15 minutes instead of 30–40. It has its own separate ranked ladder (Gizmos & Gadgets rank, not Iron–Challenger) that also resets when the set ends. Hyper Roll rank and rewards are tracked independently from the standard TFT ranked ladder — finishing high in one does not affect your standing in the other. Both ladders close when Set 17 ends on July 29, 2026.
